A new website, called Coronado Past, was recently launched by longtimeĀ local, Lisa Krause. It began as a Facebook group and over the years has grown to over 2,000 members. Ā Lisa shared, “I wanted to create a placeĀ where everyone can learn about theĀ History of Coronado and see old historic photos of what the town has lookedĀ like for the last 129 years.”
Lisa plans to postĀ weekly articlesĀ with historical facts about Coronado, a gallery page with albums and a contact page where visitorsĀ can ask questions.
According to Lisa,Ā “Coronado Past began in 2009 when my friend, Joe Ditler, gave me a challenge toĀ research and write an articleĀ about the fountain that was once in the courtyard at theĀ Hotel del Coronado. At that time, noĀ one knew anything about it, even what itĀ looked like. Ā As I was doing my research, I discovered many historicalĀ photos ofĀ Coronado and I was posting them on my Facebook page. Ā Everyone wanted to seeĀ them, so I decided to create a separate page, which grew to over 2000Ā people.”
“Most of the people on CoronadoĀ Past grew up in Coronado between 1940 and 1980. Ā I realized thatĀ even people who did not grow up here at that time, have an interestĀ in the History of Coronado.Ā So I decidedĀ to create a webpage, so everyone on the Internet, not just those onĀ Facebook,Ā could learn about the interesting history of our town. Ā I invite everyone toĀ check it out.”
