After a convincing defeat against Clairemont High School, 45-6, the Islanders came onto the field prepared against Crawford. Now five and one, Coronado’s Varsity Football team had been gaining momentum in the season. That had not changed Friday night in a shut-out at Crawford High School.
In the first quarter of the game, sophomore Ash Bibbes played quarterback for the first time this season and rushed two touchdowns to go up 13-0. Then in the second quarter, senior Max Baker completed a 34-yard pass thrown by Bibbes followed by a 14-yard pass to Nicholas Dunn to go up 25-0 at the half. Junior Colter Maldonado then subbed in for Bibbes as quarterback for one more touchdown. #23 James Witthoft completed a 37-yard pass by Maldonado to bring the final winning score to 32-0.
Defensively, senior Bryce Alexander dominated Crawford with eight total tackles, preventing them from scoring a single touchdown.
The team’s current record is six wins to one loss.
