After victories the past few weeks, the girls’ varsity tennis team took their first loss of the season against Bishop’s. Although “it was an atypical match,” Coach Moore says, singles play was dominant. Line 1 Singles player Summer Vu swept all three of her matches, with set scores of 6-4, 6-0, and 6-4. Hannah Quirk and Tiana French both won two of their three singles matches.

In total, the singles players won 7 of 9 sets. The doubles teams had a harder time with their matches, losing 8 of 9 sets. The total score was 8-10.

After that close loss, the team had to recuperate for the first Western League match of the season against Patrick Henry High School. The doubles teams had a complete turnaround from the previous match. Line 1 Doubles, Elsa Östermarker and Olivia Strong, and Line 2 Doubles, Sinaia Haskal and Lily Vu, swept all six of their matches. Line 3 kept this streak as Ellie Johnson and Marla Steel won their two matches, and Virginia Beall and Samantha Russell substituted in to win the third match. The total score was 16-2.

“My players are so strong and they need to realize and know they can compete with the very best because they are among the very best,” says Coach Moore.

The season record is now 5 wins to 1 loss.
