Updated: U.S. Fighter Jets Collide Over Pacific, 1 Pilot Missing

Update: The Navy has identified Lt. Nathan Poloski, a 26 year old native of Lake Arrowhead, Calif., as the pilot who was declared presumed deceased, Sept. 15. A 2009 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Poloski reported to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 94, based in Lemoore, Calif., in April, 2014.

Two U.S. fighter jets have collided and crashed into the west Pacific Ocean on Friday, the Navy said.

One pilot was rescued soon after the crash occurred between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. PT depending on the ship’s exact location in the Pacific. A search was underway for the the second pilot, the Navy said.
