Coronado permanent roundabout on hold

CORONADO — Residents who live near a large and unwieldy three-way intersection in Coronado will have to wait a little longer to get a permanent traffic-calming roundabout installed.

The City Council, which supports the idea of a roundabout but is dealing with a $120,000 budget deficit this year, has decided to place the project, estimated to cost $1.2 million, on a list of endeavors it will consider funding as early as next year.

Council members also agreed at a meeting last week to keep the temporary roundabout, installed one year ago at the problem intersection of Pomona and Adella avenues and Seventh Street, for now. They agreed to install pedestrian ramps at crosswalks to comply with the federal Americans With Disabilities Act, and to begin addressing some of the affected neighbors’ concerns and drainage issues in the area.
