Senior middie Andrew Hayden scored a game-high three goals to lead No. 7 La Costa Canyon to an 8-5 victory over No. 2 Coronado in a CIF-San Diego Section game Wednesday night.
Senior attackman Timmy Andrews and sophomore attackman Brendan Gaughan each added a co-team-high three points to help the Mavericks (3-0) win their third straight to start the season and avenge last year’s loss to Coronado in the San Diego Section championship game.
Andrews finished with two goals and one assist, and Gaughan had a goal and two assists, as La Costa Canyon took an early lead that it would never relinquish.
