Last Tuesday and Thursday, the girls golf team played at Admiral Baker Golf Course in the CIF tournament. This tournament was purely sectional play in the County of San Diego. As a whole, the team placed fourth in their division with a total score of 175 strokes over par.
Individually, Crista Izuzquiza shot 150 strokes collectively on both days, tying at fifteenth place in the entire tournament. This meant that she had a playoff to determine the tiebreaker between Crista and a player from Scripps Ranch High School, who played in the CIF State Final last year. In sudden death play, the first and second holes were tied by both players at par. On the third hole, Crista had driven to the green and barely missed the hole on the putt. Her rival was closer to the hole but missed it as well. Crista then sunk the putt on her next attempt, winning the sudden death play and placing 12th of 108 competitors. She will move on to the Regional Finals at Canyon Crest Golf Club in Riverside.
Sophia Matthews followed Crista and placed 28th, having shot 79 strokes both days.
