Update:  Ryan Seggerman beat Ivan Thamma 4-6, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-4). Seggerman becomes Coronado’s first singles CIF champion since Randy Nixon (’79).

Ryan Seggerman continues to dominate on the tennis court.  The CHS Senior is in the CIF individual finals after beating Jacob Brumm of Torrey Pines 6-4, 6-4.  Brumm is the number seven player in the nation and it’s the first time Seggerman has beaten Brumm in seven attempts.

CHS Coach David Brummitt said that Seggerman won because of his “big serves, big forehands and strong mental discipline”.  Seggerman will take on Ivan Thamma in the CIF final on Friday, May 19th at Barnes Tennis Center at 2pm.

The last time a Coronado High athlete won the CIF tennis singles title was 1979. Here is Randy Nixon, the 1979 CIF singles champ, with Ryan Seggerman, CIF singles champion 2017.

The Coronado Times covered Seggerman five years ago in an article that included a photo of him with Ivan Thamma after capturing a doubles championship in 2012.
