Carrie Downey has the education, experience and leadership skills to be our next Mayor!

How do I know this?  Well, I have known Carrie for 20+ years, first as a fellow attorney, and then as her first political campaign manager.  In those 20 years I watched her go back to law school to gain a Masters of Law while working and raising three daughters under 5, after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.  She is an extremely energetic and hard worker who sets goals and then exceeds them.  I have been impressed enough with the quality of her legal work that I have referred clients to her many times over those 20 years.

When Carrie decided to run for Coronado’s City Council in 2000, I agreed to manage her campaign.  Although she did not win the first election, she did not let it stop her just like she does not let her MS get in the way of her goals.  She spent the next four years as President of the PTA, helping community non-profits and getting to know the people of Coronado.  Carrie’s passion for Coronado impressed all who met her and put her in a position to unseat a four term incumbent the next time she ran in 2004.

Since being elected, Carrie has used her negotiating skills to effectively build consensus on the Coronado City Council to better our community.  She understands what can legally be done to address residents’ concerns and helps draft policy to make it happen.   She has been asked by her elected peers to Chair several SANDAG Committees for the same reason; she listens to all sides and brings them together to find a workable and enforceable solution.  Carrie is the complete package and truly cares for Coronado.  She has what it takes to effectively serve as Coronado’s 51st Mayor.
