JoJo’s Jamboree at Coronado Ferry Landing (July 22-24)

During Comic-Con week, San Diego Children’s Film Festival Presents…

INCREDIBLE JOJO’S OL’ FASHION JAM-PACKED JAMBOREE

The excitement of the San Diego Comic-Con and its 130,000 attendees extends across the bay to the Coronado Ferry Landing with INCREDIBLE JOJO’S OL’ FASHION JAM-PACKED JAMBOREE.

From July 22-24th (4pm-10pm each day), the Coronado Ferry Landing will be filled with an old fashion carnival where kids of all ages will get a chance to try a never ending barrage of activities. Adventure seekers can take a short ferry ride directly from the San Diego Convention Center to the Coronado Ferry Landing.

Kids and adults can try log-rolling, ride a train, bob for apples, throw an axe, attempt the world record for frog jumping, play with a pack of wolves, and many more exciting events (most events will be completely free to attendees). This is all possible due to the generous support from the restaurants and shops of the Coronado Ferry Landing and the San Diego Children’s Film Festival.

Each day will be capped off with an evening advance screening of:
THE INCREDIBLE 4D ADVENTURES OF JOJO (and his annoying sister Avila)

It will be presented in a special 4D interactive format, which was developed in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution and several Disney Imagineers, and it’s where an assortment of live practical effects (like rain, smells, fog, explosions) work in tandem with the movie on the screen, creating a more interactive encounter, enhancing the movie-going experience for kids of all ages.

Audiences can experience the rain falling on their faces, see grandma’s shotgun explode over their heads, smell the raw meat sitting in a wolf trap, feel the rumble of stampeding cows, watch bubbles float overhead, and be dazzled by an entire world of glow worms coming alive above their very heads. This unique cinematic experience has been a big hit with audiences of all ages, especially when they feel like they are getting pee’d on by a six year old kid.

The film is the story of a six-year-old boy named Jojo who wakes up from a car accident deep in the woods. He reluctantly pulls his baby sister out of the wreckage, plops her into his backpack, and together they try to make it home alive; encountering deranged hobos, wolves, and raging rivers along the way.

This controversial children’s film has been rated PG-13 by a committee of overprotective parents due to scenes of boys using pocket knives and girls eating bugs, but those coming from backgrounds where kids were allowed to be adventurous have deemed it appropriate for ages 6 and up.

The film was made by the duo of Ann-Marie and Brian Schmidt. Ann-Marie Schmidt is a graduate of Cal Poly. Brian Schmidt has a background in animation and graduated from Cal Arts. With this film being their directorial debut, Ann-Marie and Brian spend their lives in utter poverty at the end of a very long dirt road. It’s a place where kids come home with scratches on their knees, animal bones in their pockets, and mud caked over their clothes. They are married and seem like a really fun couple. Just don’t let them babysit.
