Nado GU9 recently competed in the Disney Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida July 11-16, 2011. The team swept through the group stage of the Girls under 10 bracket, defeating teams from Texas, Florida, and Ecuador by a combined score of 23 to 5. Nado demonstrated a balanced attack as every player on the team scored at least 2 goals. “The girls played smartly throughout the tournament and they played with a lot of heart,” said Coach Jerry Ruiz.
The Championship game was a tightly contested battle in which the skill and determination of Nado prevailed over a bigger, more physical team from Florida. Final score: Nado 3, Florida 2. “The pressure got to them a little, but they overcame it after halftime and had fun with it,” said Ruiz. “I was very proud of them. They deserved to win.”
In between games, the girls took advantage of the opportunity to visit the Disney World Theme Parks, creating memories that will surely last a lifetime.
