2 stray dogs in Coronado diagnosed with distemper

San Diego Union Tribune Reports… Police are urging residents to report any stray animals after two stray dogs this month were found to have distemper, a highly contagious disease that can kill dogs. Coronado police Comdr. Mike Lawton urged residents to avoid contact with any strays and to call police animal control services immediately at (619) 522-7371 . The disease can be contracted by inhaling or coming into direct contact with viral particles shed through infected dogs’ bodily secretions, such as urine or feces, Lawton said. Kennels, bedding toys and other objects can also hold the virus.
