Coronado Stand Up Paddle Encounter With Stingray Caught On Video

SAN DIEGO — A local woman spoke to 10News about a painful encounter with a creature while in the waters off Coronado.

In video recently posted on YouTube, Jasmin Martinez was making her first-ever attempt at paddleboarding in May.
“I was very nervous. I was scared because I’m not a good swimmer,” said Martinez.

The video showed her hugging the paddleboard as her friend, Mark Miller, stood on the board and paddled.
Miller, the owner of Isle Surfboards, mounted a camera to record the fun. Several hours into the adventure, the video showed a wave dumping both of them into the water.

“I panicked and then I dropped; I stood up and jumped,” said Martinez.

Moments later, the video showed Martinez making a much bigger jump and screaming in surprise. Martinez, a medical assistant, is familiar with pain, but she said she never felt anything like that before.

“I felt it was a knife basically coming up through my foot,” said Martinez.
