The annual Chalk Walk at Coronado High School always attracts people from the community as well as the other schools in the district to see art made on the spot. Artists from all sections of Beginning Art, Advanced Art, Portfolio Art, and CoSA Art come together to express themselves with beautiful use of chalk. With different techniques and shades of color, these student artists were able to create murals using the sidewalks in the quad as their canvas. From 7am until 4pm on Thursday, May 25, they were vigorously working to perfect their pieces.

“Since most of the school doesn’t usually see what the artists at Coronado do, the chalk walk is a great opportunity to bring the school together and to show off all the talent that the artists at Coronado have,” says CoSA Art student, Summer Haddaway. She, along with Alyssa Agarwal, Ily Alfred, and Chris Russell, reimagined a portrait of the renowned artist Frida Kahlo. “The chalk walk is all about art, so my group and I decided it would be appropriate to incorporate a very famous and successful artist. Aesthetically speaking, Frida Kahlo has a very distinct face, making the art recognizable for the viewers. Not only was the reference photo bold and vibrant, the expressionism of her face set an empowering message that portrayed her interesting history and art,” she says.
