On Sunday, January 29, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will kick-off a year-long celebration to mark 130 years of ministry in Coronado. St. Paul’s held its first worship service in the Public School at the center of town on Sunday, January 30, 1887. According the pastor of St. Paul’s, the Rev. Robert Fuesler, the celebration theme is: “In the Heart of Coronado for 130 years.”
Mayor Richard Bailey will be on hand at the Sunday worship services at 9:00 am and 10:30 am to present a mayoral proclamation recognizing church’s service and ministry to the people of Coronado. Rev. Fuesler notes that the denominational motto of the UMC is “Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors” and so the church welcomes community members to come and celebrate at this kick-off event next Sunday. “Birthday” cake will be served after both worship services.
The church has slated a number of celebratory events throughout the year, including a visit from their regional bishop, the Rev. Dr. Grant Hagiya on June 4, which is Pentecost.
