I am a Navy Junior who calls Coronado my home town. I grew up here and attended Central Elementary. My older siblings attended and graduated Coronado High School.  I moved back to Coronado in 1998 and worked to build a life for my family, and with the help of some wonderful friends and neighbors I did just that.

One of the friends, neighbors and fellow community volunteers that I am proud to have connected with all those years ago is Carrie Downey. Carrie is one of the smartest, most energetic and most committed community members I know. She brought her legendary talents to every effort we engaged in together, and many more that I just observed from the sidelines.

She first recruited me to Village Elementary’s PATT and made sure we worked tirelessly to raise money for enrichment programs for our community’s children. She then recruited me to the Coronado Junior Woman’s Club, and we had years of successful endeavors that created funding and volunteers for programs for our community and our children. We later joined the Coronado Woman’s Club where her leadership helped reshape the organization to build sustainability for the future. She also brought me in to help start Coronado Promenade Concerts as the nonprofit that serves as the conduit for the 46 year tradition of summer concerts at Spreckels Park. And of course you also may know her as a hardworking member of the Coronado City Council.

With her commitment to Coronado and her enthusiasm and energy for our community I can’t imagine you could choose anyone other than Carrie Downey to serve as the next Mayor. Go Carrie!

  Sincerely,
  Maggie Hannegan
