Prepare to be scared! Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) will present its second annual Horror Night on Thursday, October 27 at 6 p.m. Get in the mood for Halloween with this scary showcase of original films and animations, all incorporating a theme of “Haunted Coronado.”
Students in CoSA’s Digital Media program which encompasses video, animation, graphic/web design, and photography have spent nearly two months plotting, directing, and designing these films and animations, using Coronado landmarks as their inspiration and backdrop.
The students use all the storytelling tools at their disposal to create movies and animations ranging from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. They have learned filmmaking structures and the art of storytelling, using pacing to create tension and music to form the atmosphere. “We don’t just teach them the concept of filmmaking,” says video production instructor Angie Hall Tieman. “We teach them all the elements that go into making a good story.” Those elements include different types of films, as well. From parodies to psychological thrillers, Horror Night will offer something for every horror fan.
This event is not for the faint of heart; the films will draw on suspense and occasional gore to create hair-raising scenes. Because of the nature of the films, this event is recommended for ages 13 and up.
Come early and enjoy spooky music played by students in the CoSA Instrumental Music program! Popcorn and candy will also be offered, so bring your appetite. The festivities start at 6 p.m. in the Coronado Performing Arts Center (CPAC) Black Box, located on the campus of Coronado High School at 650 D Avenue, Coronado, CA. This event is pay-what-you-can and open to the public.
