Veterans are finding camaraderie, competition and comfort between tee boxes and flagsticks. Randy Morgan, a Coronado, California, resident and member of the Veteran Golfers Association, served with the United States Navy for 27 years. He is a retired Navy Captain and served his career mostly in Coronado in Navy Special Warfare. He graduated from Penn State (‘79/Science) and is lifetime member of the Penn State Alumni Association.
He will join approximately 80 other veteran golfers from around the country to compete in the 2015 VGA Championship this Veterans Day at historic Pinehurst No. 2.
Pinehurst No. 2, the centerpiece of Pinehurst Resort, remains one of the worldÂ’s most celebrated golf courses. It has served as the site of more single golf championships than any course in America and, in 2014, hosted 14 days of championship play with back to back U.S. Open and U.S. WomenÂ’s Open Championships for the first time ever.
Randy Morgan, Captain, USN (ret), earned his prestigious slot to Pinehurst by advancing in a regional qualifier at Rio Secco Golf Course in the Las Vegas Qualifier. Top finishers at regional venues qualified for an all expense paid trip to the VGA National Championships in Pinehurst, N.C. on Veterans Day.
The Veteran Golfers Association was formed earlier this year as a 501(c)3 non-profit with a vision to promote golf to veterans and their family members across the country. All veterans, to include active duty, reservists, retired, or disabled, are eligible for membership in the VGA. To follow the 2015 VGA Championship, please visit www.vgachampionship.org.
