CORONADO Students stand at attention, shoes polished, hair brushed, badges and pins straightened and shirts perfectly tucked in, ready to recite the 11 General Orders of the Sentry.
Welcome to the Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps at Coronado High School.
Only a patch on their left arm and a lapel pin separate the high schoolers appearance from those enlisted at North Island.
Oh, and these young men and women are talented, too.
Thirty-eight of the school’s 90 Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps students helped to conquer uncharted territory when they beat out 13 other units from Southern California and Arizona to take home the top spot at a Dec. 4 drill meet in Escondido. It was a feat never accomplished in the 7-year history of the team.
