The Coronado Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their 42nd Annual Holiday Parade on Friday, December 1st. This hometown parade is a true holiday tradition and thousands line the street each year to kick off the holiday season in style. The parade starts at 6pm and runs down Orange Avenue from 8th to R.H. Dana, but many come early to Rotary Plaza to sing carols with Coronado City Council and anxiously await Santa’s arrival via fire truck. Once Santa arrives, one lucky local family is selected each year to help the Mayor flip the switch on Star Pine, lighting the giant tree in all its glory.
This year the Chamber has decided to start an annual Coronado Tree Lighting Contest, giving local children ages 18 and under the chance to nominate their family to be the official Tree Lighters for 2017! Kids are asked to write one paragraph as to why their family should be selected to stand up on the podium next to Mayor Bailey. The Chamber has high hopes that many local families will apply.
“Our Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting are yearly traditions for so many local families,” said Sue Gillingham, Executive Director at the Coronado Chamber. “We thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get the community involved year after year.”
For those who wish to enter, you must include your full name, age, address, phone number and a parent signature. All entries are due to the Chamber by Friday, November 24th. Entries may be emailed to [email protected], mailed or hand delivered to 1125 Tenth Street, Coronado, CA 92118.
