This Friday, May 13th, the community of Coronado is invited to line the streets to support the procession for fallen SEAL Charles Keating IV around 12pm. It will take place directly after the funeral service held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Coronado Rotary members are planning to line the route with 180 flags. Coronado Unified School District staff and students will be given the opportunity to stand on the sidewalk along the street to wave American flags as well as any appropriate signs of tribute and gratitude. It will take place at approximately 12:40pm. Students and staff members are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue. This opportunity is optional for staff and/or students and will be coordinated by the principal of each school.
Members of the public may pay their respects for Navy SEAL Charles Keating IV during a funeral procession that will make its way through Coronado. The Coronado Police Department will escort the funeral procession of up to 150 vehicles from a private service in Coronado to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. The escort will begin in the 600 block of C Avenue, where parking will be restricted, and head west on Sixth Street toward Naval Air Station North Island.
On Alameda Boulevard, the procession will head north to Fourth Street, where it will head toward the San Diego-Coronado Bridge. Coronado Firefighters and Lifeguards will be on hand as they post colors on a Fire Truck ladder above the procession route at the corner of Sixth Street and H Avenue, at the request of Navy officials. A ceremonial U.S. flag also will be hung at the toll plaza during memorial events.
