The Coronado Rotary Club hosted ten High School Juniors at their weekly meeting in the Hotel del Coronado on Wednesday 4 May who completed the prestigious RYLA program 15-17 April.
Seven of the students are from Coronado High School and three are from Mar Vista High School in Imperial Beach. This is the first year Rotary has reached out to schools beyond Coronado.
RYLA began in the San Diego District in 1972 with 100 participants and has since grown to include more than 350 participants annually. Outstanding student leaders are chosen each year to participate in a three day leadership camp at Idyllwild Pines in Idyllwild, California.
Rotary looks each year for high school juniors who are outstanding school and/or community leaders with a strong service background to apply for RYLA.
Selectees participate in what many call a “life-changing experience” where they have the opportunity to discuss leadership, service and career opportunities and to exchange ideas about current ethical and social issues with knowledgeable District 5340 Rotarians who are local and regional leaders.
