Old Goats “Combat Injured Reunion and Recognition Weekend” November 13-15, 2015

Old Goats, City of Coronado, Hotel del Coronado “Combat Injured Reunion and Recognition Weekend” November 13-15, 2015. The public is invited to the Sunday reception which will begin at 3PM at the Coronado Community Center Nautilus Room 1845 Strand Way Coronado 92118.

Since 2008, the “Old Goats” (an informal group of Naval Academy graduates) have joined with the City of Coronado and its hotels and restaurants to host selected combat injured nee “wounded warriors” from the C5 (Comprehensive Combat and Complex Casualty Care) Unit at Naval Medical Center, San Diego to a weekend at the Hotel del Coronado highlighted by a Sunday reception during which the Mayor with help from the “young kids” from Coronado schools presents each honoree with a key to the city.

2015 information from Comprehensive Combat and Complex Casualty Care Unit, Naval Medical Center San Diego

At the peak of wounded ,ill, and injured, we had around 260-300 here for some type of care or rehabilitation. At one point, we were caring for 110 amputees with 190 limbs lost. Today, we have approximately 25 patients being treated at the C5 Unit.

Old Goats continuing…

Due to the declining population of combat injured at the C5 Unit, the Old Goats are now able to make an important positive change for our November 13-15, 2015 recognition weekend. For the first time, at least one of our honorees will be a recently discharged wounded warrior amputee now transitioning at Warrior Foundation Freedom Station San Diego to his new life as a civilian. He and his family will be joining the 3 other active duty honorees hence the new title of recognition and reunion weekend. We hope that this trend continues so that in future years the weekend tribute just possibly may no longer include active duty combat injured.

The 4 honorees and their families will enjoy a luxurious weekend at the Hotel del including beach, pool, spa treatments, and meals. The public is invited to the Sunday reception which will begin at 3PM at the Coronado Community Center Nautilus Room 1845 Strand Way Coronado 92118. The Brigantine Miguels restaurant group will again cater a Mexican buffet featuring beer, wine, and margaritas. Colonel Jason Woodworth USMC, Commanding Officer, USMCAS Miramar will be guest speaker followed by Mayor and kids. Ceremonies begin at approximately 3:40PM all complete by 4:15PM at latest.

Cost for the reception and buffet is $50 per person. Please make out check to Danny Musselman, treasurer, for Old Goats reception. Mail to: Ben Hallowell 850 C Ave #1 Coronado CA 92118.
