CORONADO, CA – Coronado has amended its curfew ordinance to ensure that park hours are more consistent throughout the City.
Beginning March 5, all 21 recognized parks in Coronado will be closed to all activities, including loitering or camping, from 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. The ordinance, which was approved by the City Council on Tuesday, February 3, simplifies enforcement and helps the community understand how to comply.
Curfews also support crime prevention efforts and act as a deterrent to overnight camping or lodging in parks. Previously, the city’s curfew ordinance excluded some City parks and established varying curfew hours for several parks. The juvenile curfew of 11 p.m. remains unchanged.
With most parks in close proximity to residential neighborhoods, the 5 a.m. end to the curfew respects the quiet enjoyment of the community while also preserving space and an appropriate time for morning exercise. The new curfew times will be posted on signs at parks, on the City’s website and in Recreation Department publications with park information.
Coronado encourages the use of its parks as a place for the community to congregate and recreate. Park closure times are an acceptable and effective method to discourage illegal behavior that can occur after dark. The City thanks the community for its support.
