Coronado Rotarians, Jane Braun and Gary Kennedy (Co-chairpersons of the 2014-2015 Low Tide Ride and Stride fundraiser), are usually on the giving side of activities. On Thursday, however, the “tide” was turned and happily and humbly they accepted the The San Diego Military Advisory Council 2014 Achievement Award for the Coronado Rotary Club.
The Achievement Award was one of five awards for the 2014 year. These five awardees were chosen out of 45 nominated.
Paul Cassani, 2015 President of San Diego Military Advisory Council, with the participation of Admiral Michele Howard, Vice Chief of Naval Operations, made the presentation saying:
“For more than 80 years, this civic organization has supported San Diego’s military community through activities and events which benefit active-duty military members and their families as well as our veterans. The club’s annual Low Tide Ride and Stride (LTR&S) event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for military related charities over the years, and the 2014 event featured over 900 participants and raised over $100,000.00 earmarked for military and military family support causes including the Comprehensive Combat and Complex Casualty Care Center, (C5) at Navy Medical Center San Diego, the Seal-Naval Special Warfare Family Foundation, the Warrior Foundation and Fisher House.”
Cassani continued, “Coronado Rotary Club’s support of the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) San Diego provided grants which help maintain more than 40 free programs and services that help young families with the unique challenges of military life. The club also provided financial support to Honor Flight which helped support transportation for WW II veterans to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.”
President Cassani ended by saying “the Coronado Rotary Club’s commitment to military members, their families and our veterans are truly reflective of an organization that has gone ‘Above and Beyond’ in providing support to San Diego’s Military Community.”
Coronado Rotary’s Low Tide Ride and Stride Committee is already at work on 2015’s event in June,” said Co-chairpersons Gary Kennedy and Robin MacCartee. “We are looking forward to another very exciting, fun-filled, successful family event.
