Strike Force Training Pacific Volunteers at San Diego Ronald McDonald House

SAN DIEGO — The Strike Force Training Pacific (SFTP) staff volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House of San Diego, Friday, serving lunch to family members with seriously ill children, who are receiving care at Rady Children’s Hospital.

Capt. John P. Nolan, SFTP Chief of Staff said, “It’s wonderful when our staff gets the opportunity to give back to the communities that have been so good to us and the Navy.”

The 14 SFTP volunteers served 147 plates during the two hour lunch. Following lunch, the sailors of SFTP had the opportunity to interact with the children and pose for some photographs.

This was a humbling opportunity to help these children and their families who are going through difficult times said Operations Specialist Second Class Frank J. Butler, SFTP volunteer opportunity organizer.

Strike Force Training Pacific is one of the commands based on Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado, CA. SFTP provides fleet commanders with combat ready maritime forces through integrated training, mentorship and assessment at sea. SFTP conducts composite training unit exercises at sea to prepare carrier strike groups and amphibious readiness groups for deployment.

For 30 years, the Ronald McDonald House of San Diego has provided more than 140,000 nights of lodging for 14,000 families whose children face life-threatening illnesses and are receiving treatment at area hospitals. For more information, go to http://www.rmhcsd.org.
