Coronado’s affordable housing draws interest

CORONADO — A well-manicured lawn stretches out in front of Spanish Revival town homes. Cobblestone courtyards contain beach cruisers and brightly colored patio furniture. A hose snakes between potted dogwoods and wind chimes sing in the ocean breeze.

Welcome to the projects of Coronado.

The city has 12 different locations scattered through town with almost 200 affordable-housing units set aside for residents with very low, low or moderate income. Rents are less than half the going market rate. Residents who qualify earn anywhere between $27,500 to $90,600 annually, depending on their family size.
