The Coronado Philharmonia Orchestra will open its 2026–27 concert season with Concertos and Symphonies, a program celebrating the exceptional talent of young Southern California musicians. The performance will take place on Saturday, October 24, at 7 p.m. at the Coronado Performing Arts Center.
Now in its fifth year, the opening concert will feature the 2026 Youth Concerto Competition winners taking the stage as featured soloists, performing works by Mozart, Hummel and Saint-Saëns. The Concerto Competition provides young musicians ages 7–18 from Coronado and San Diego County the opportunity to perform as soloists with a professional-level orchestra.

Orin O’Neal, 12, began playing trumpet at age seven and quickly discovered a passion for both classical and jazz music. He performs with the San Diego Youth Symphony, Young Lions Jazz Conservatory, and Jacobs Big Band, and was selected for the 2026 YOLA National Festival. He also earned 1st Chair Trumpet in the 2026 SCSBOA All-Southern California Middle School Symphonic Honor Band. Orin studies with San Diego Symphony trumpeter Tim Saeger and is thrilled to perform Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto with the Coronado Philharmonia.

Maya Brisard, 14, is a violinist from Solana Beach who studies with Dr. Moni Simeonov at the Colburn School. A member of the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra since 2017, she has served as concertmaster of three ensembles and earned top prizes in national and international competitions, including American Protégé. She has performed at Carnegie Hall and participated in masterclasses with artists including Midori and David Chan. Outside of music, Maya enjoys track, beach volleyball, and spending time with family and friends.

Jun Kim, 17, is a clarinetist from San Diego and senior at Canyon Crest Academy. He studies with Sam Boutris and performs with the San Diego Youth Symphony. Jun has attended Music Academy of the West, NYO2, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and was featured as a From the Top Fellow on NPR. He has collaborated with artists including Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Rafael Payare, and Alisa Weilerstein. Jun also serves on the leadership team of the Carmel Valley Summer Symphony, helping provide free music education to San Diego students.
The evening’s program will also feature Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro Overture and Clarinet Concerto, Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony and Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1.
