A former member of the surf band The Astronauts, the young musician had released several albums with the group and toured throughout the country and Japan before settling in San Diego County.

He also became a dedicated, inspiring teacher who encouraged his students and developed the Coronado High School marching band into an award-winning group.
Mr. Demmon died of cardiopulmonary arrest Dec. 18 at his Coronado home. He was 71.
