Arriving in San Diego on Saturday is the Farmer’s Airship, the zeppelin Eureka. The airship visited San Diego and Coronado several times last year, and is coming on this occasion to provide flight seeing tours and TV coverage for the Farmers Insurance Open PGA Golf Tournament. Last April Eureka was flying out of Brown Field, but for this trip she will be based at Montgomery Field, which means shorter flight times to downtown and also to Torrey Pines.
Flights will be available to the public. The zeppelin can carry 12 passengers at a time, and every seat has huge windows which provide scenic views. Tours start at $375/per person, plus taxes. Itineraries vary, sometimes flights go over downtown and Coronado; and they also fly north to La Jolla and and Torrey Pines. More information can be found online at http://farmersairship.com. Interested passengers should call 650-969-8100×1111 to book.
For those that missed our story on the zeppelin last April, the short version goes like this: a flight in the Eureka is an amazing experience that you will not forget, and your pictures will be the envy of your friends (trust me on that).
We will have another story next week describing our flight over Torrey Pines during one of the practice days of the tournament. With any luck we’ll get a picture from above of local hero Phil Mickelson or we also hear that there’s this guy named Tiger who plans on showing up…
