SAN DIEGO The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) honored both Naval Base Coronado’s (NBC) and Naval Base San Diego’s (NBSD) Transportation Incentive Programs (TIP) Mar. 27 with Diamond Awards for reducing traffic on San Diego roads. The Diamond Awards, given annually, recognize organizations that take a proactive approach to reducing traffic and encouraging mass transportation commuting options for their employees in the San Diego area. NBC’s program received the nod five of the last seven years. This was NBSD’s first time receiving the award. Through TIP, eligible employees receive government subsides for using different forms of mass transportation such as vanpools, commuter trains and buses. NBC won this year’s award for ongoing commitment. NBC has offered commuter programs since 1986 and has more than 1,500 employees currently enrolled in TIP. Read the entire Navy Compass article here.
