This topic has been bothering me lately. l have seen many long term and good Coronado residents have to move (or REALLY struggle) because rents are being raised super high. Example, a local kindergarten teacher was forced to move from her (9+ years) rental home due to a $500 sudden increase! The building down the street from us was pretty much emptied out because their rents were raised several hundred each also, so the tenants couldn’t afford to stay (also many long term). I know of many more personally. Then last week it was my own turn. I’ve always said that my property management company has been so great at keeping prices steady and residents happy. I got a sudden $200+ increase. What do I do? My child is on an IEP here and is thriving. I simply can’t move because of that. So we’ll cut down on everything. Next year there will be no sports etc…. We just won’t be able to afford it.
These increases are outrageous. They’re hurtful and they’re too large. I understand that there’s NO law and nothing in place to restrict what I think is simply greed. These owners and management companies can easily get whatever they want because people are in line. This hurts long term residents who have to rent and can’t afford to own. Teachers, grandparents, young parents…
I wish a form of rent control could be introduced to the island.
I know this issue affects a LOT of Coronadians right now…
