Tom Hom: ‘San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter’
The Gaslamp Quarter, immediately across the bridge, is a favorite destination of many in Coronado, and there is no one better known for its founding than Tom Hom. Tom is a key visionary, who helped transform what had been a sailor’s skid row into the vibrant entertainment and restaurant center of the Gaslamp Historic District that we see today. For his many civic contributions over the years, Tom Hom was recently recognized by the Rotary Club of San Diego as “Mr. San Diego” for 2014.
This Friday, September 19, Tom will share with us how the Gaslamp District came to be, how the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum was established, and will discuss his new book, “Rabbit on a Bumpy Road,” which outlines much of this history.
