Soccer: CHS Girls Get Two Wins In Difficult Weather

Last week, with heavy rain and difficult weather conditions, the Girls’ Varsity Soccer team was scheduled to play three games, against Chula Vista, Kearny, and Fallbrook High Schools—the last of which was canceled. Tuesday’s game against Chula Vista proved an excellent defensive game on behalf of the Islanders. Senior Avery Dozier and sophomore Anna Valades, in particular, helped keep their opponents out of the goal. Senior Madison Shanks scored the only goal for Coronado, and the final score was 1-0.

The following day, the Islanders headed to Kearny High School, despite the light rain. “We had balanced team play, especially given the weather conditions, as the game was played in a downpour,” shares Coach Mike Costaglio. Coronado dominated with four goals to none, with strong defensive play again. Shanks, sophomore Grace Gehler, Dozier, and sophomore Amelia Hawley were the Islanders’ scorers.

The team’s current record is four wins and one tie.

Upcoming Games:
  • Tuesday, December 11 vs. Westview High School @ 5:30 PM (Home)
  • Thursday, December 13 vs. Mater Dei Catholic High School @ 5:30 PM (Home)
