Last Monday, the female Islander Golf team hosted Scripps Ranch High School for their second-to-last league match of the season. On her home course, junior Crista Izuzquiza shot one under par for the top score of 35 strokes. Senior Sabrina Ladd and sophomore Samantha Lorr followed with scores of 44 and 46 strokes, respectively. After Lorr, sophomore Annie Holland and team captain Caroline Ward shot a 48 and 52 for an overall solid performance on behalf of the Islanders. Unfortunately, Scripps Ranch took the match 225-196.
On Wednesday, Coronado played against La Jolla High School for the final match of the season before the City Tournament and CIFs. One of the closest matches of the season, the Islanders pulled through with a final win of 226-235. Izuzquiza was Coronado’s lowest score of 38 strokes, followed by Lorr and Ladd who shot respective scores of 43 and 44. Not far behind, Holland and Ward shot scores of 50 and 51 to secure the win for the Islanders. “This win places us 3rd in Western League and 2nd in Division-II schools,” shares Coach Stuart Gordon.
The team finished with a record of eleven wins to eleven losses and will continue matchplay in CIFs following the City Tournament on Monday.
