Water Polo: CHS Girls Win CIF Quarter Final Against Del Norte, 8-7

On Saturday, the Islander Girls’ Water Polo team entered the post-season CIF tournament of the San Diego Section. The top eight teams in the county, determined by their Power Rankings, were selected to play in the Open Division bracket. Among these teams, Coronado was ranked fourth behind Cathedral Catholic (1st), Bishop’s (2nd), and Carlsbad (3rd). Coronado played their first round against Del Norte High School in their home pool at the BBMAC.

Gaining a quick advantage, Coronado scored the first goal of the game, which would prove crucial in the final score. Del Norte would match every goal Coronado made, as both teams scored two goals in the second and third quarter. Going into the fourth quarter, the score was 5-4, and Del Norte was working hard to gain a lead against Coronado. Both teams were going back and forth with every goal, as they both scored three in the last quarter. The final score was 8-7, in favor of Coronado. Junior Reese Oliver was Coronado’s top scorer, with four goals.

We wish them luck in the semi-finals next week!
