Shop Small, Park Free This Holiday Season!

Shop small this holiday season and enjoy an extra perk—free meter parking, courtesy of the Coronado Chamber of Commerce and the City of Coronado. “Parking Meter Holidays” continue this year as the Chamber’s way to encourage residents and non-residents alike to purchase items locally at the abundance of small businesses right here in Coronado. Park at any metered spot in a commercial zone in town on any day from Monday, December 4th through Monday, December 25th and you’ll receive parking free of charge. Parking meters will not be covered, but time restrictions, per the time limit of that meter (some meters are 12 minute zones, others are two hours), will still be enforced; and the meters will be programmed to indicate a violation when the time allocated for free parking has expired.

“Coronado has the most amazing array of shops, galleries and restaurants—you could do all of your holiday shopping in just a few blocks,” said Sue Gillingham, Executive Director for the Coronado Chamber. “Partnering with the City for free parking during the holiday season is our way to incentivize shopping small and helping support our local businesses.”

Coronado already stands out for its low hourly parking rate, with just 25 cents buying you a full hour. This rate is unheard of in other parts of the state or country. Just across the bridge in San Diego, a quarter buys you just 12 minutes. The free holiday parking is just icing on the cupcake that is living in Coronado.

The Chamber would like to thank the City of Coronado for once again providing the “Parking Meter Holiday,” as well as the City of Coronado Police Department for their help in getting the program set up on the new parking meters. For more information or questions, contact the Chamber office at 619-435-9260. Happy holidays from the City of Coronado!
