The largest meet in the world, with approximately 13,000 runners, the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic was held at the SilverLakes Sports Complex in Norco, California. This meet covers two days, with stronger teams competing on Saturday evening. Coronado’s boys’ and girls’ cross country teams took part in the varsity races that evening on the same three-mile course.

The boys’ team ran first 7:30 PM. Spencer Busby, Ian Hurlburt, and Patrick Harris all finished “in virtual dead heat,” as Coach Green calls it. Their time was 15:55 (Mile Time: 5:18). Connor Jaynes followed behind them with a time of 16:29 (Mile Time: 5:30), then came Cole Mullins, Casey Harris, and Cole Nichols with times of 16:37 (Mile Time: 5:32), 16:46 (Mile Time: 5:35), and 17:23 (Mile Time: 5:48), respectively. The collective results placed the boys’ team at 4th place out of thirty-one schools in San Diego County.

Teresa Perez catches second place at the finish line.

At 8:55 PM, the girls’ team had the chance to defend their fourth-place county title. Teresa Perez came in second out of 164 runners, clocking 16:55.9 (Mile Time: 5:38), nearly catching the leader of the race who clocked 16:55.4. Madden Hundley finished second for Coronado in 18:01 (Mile Time: 6:00), followed by Naya Tamariz with a time of 18:37 (Mile Time: 6:12). Jessica Ehret, Claire Morris, Abigail Hundley, and Natalya Gomez also finished this race. After having placed fifth last week, Coronado moves up to second in the San Diego Section after La Costa Canyon. Other than Sage Creek, Coronado is the only Division IV team in the top ten schools in San Diego.

On Saturday morning, Coronado’s JV team ran in the Mount Carmel Invitational at Morley Field in Balboa Park. The top finishers for Coronado in the Division II freshman races were Grant Hawthorne and Sofia Van Arsdale. Both placing ninth in their races, Grant ran the 2.95-mile course in 17:56 (Mile Time: 6:05). Sofia finished the 2.75-mile course in 18:03 (Mile Time: 6:34).
