To kick off their season, the Islanders boys’ water polo team went to Orange County to play against Newport Harbor High School. The team has continued their tradition of starting their season with a game against Newport Harbor. “Orange County has very good teams, and Newport Harbor is ranked top ten in the nation,” says Coach Castillo, the varsity water polo coach. “They are a very physical team, so it’s always a good way to set the tone for the rest of season.”
Despite the significant margin of loss, Castillo saw great efforts from his players. Teddy Oliver, a freshman, played his first high school water polo game last Saturday. “To play a top-ten team in the nation, I thought he did really well, by making a lot of key blocks that helped us keep the score down on our opponent’s end,” says Castillo. Junior Andy Rogers, another key performer, scored half of Coronado’s points. Overall, Castillo was proud of the team’s performance.
We wish them luck with the rest of their season.
