Shark Sighting at Silver Strand State Beach Prompts 24-Hour Advisory

A shark sighting was reported at Silver Strand State Beach yesterday around 8:15am near lifeguard tower “1”.  Lifeguards issued a 24-hour advisory which warns swimmers and surfers that they are entering the ocean at their own risk.  The beaches are not closed at this time.  A similar shark sighting occurred last month on June 8th near the same location.

Coronado Cays resident, Ken Irvine, spotted the shark as he and a friend were surfing. Ken estimated that the shark appeared to be a 10-foot long great white (Heather Hope of CBS8 shared this video on Twitter):

The advisory is for a 1-mile radius and remains in effect for 24 hours from the time of the incident. As of 9am this morning, the advisory signs are still up at Silver Strand State Beach.
