Two U.S. Marine Jets Collide Over Water

Both pilots are in stable condition.

Marine Corps Air Station Miramar reported that two Third Marine Aircraft Wing single-seat F/A-18 Hornets experienced a mid-air collision during a training mission over the water near San Diego late this morning.

MCAS Miramar officials stated that one pilot ejected safely and search and rescue crews are looking for that pilot.  The other pilot landed safely at NASNI in Coronado.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

 

UPDATE – The pilot that ejected was recovered by search and rescue crew from the USS Carl Vinson.  Both pilots are in stable condition and are at medical facilities for observation.
