Stocktoberfest Attracts Nearly 400 Investors and Fin Tech Enthusiasts

stocktoberfest2016Stocktoberfest, originally conceived by Coronado resident Howard Lindzon, co-founder and Chairman of StockTwits, is an annual event that features top names in trading and investing, fin tech, and financial media as both presenters and attendees.  In recent years, it has been held at the Hotel del Coronado.

The Coronado Times spoke with StockTwits CEO Ian Rosen to get some feedback on the nearly 400 financial folks that descended on Coronado earlier this month.

Rosen shared that “Feedback from this year’s Stocktoberfest was extremely positive.  We had several comments that this was the “best Stocktoberfest yet” because of the great mix of speakers and attendees.  84% of all attendees rated the show ‘Excellent’ or ‘Very Good’.”

Some highlights included presentations from Morgan Housel (partner at The Collaborative Fund and a former columnist at The Motley Fool and The Wall Street Journal) and Jeff Macke (Jeff’s Twitter bio:  North America’s Sweetheart. Investor. Writer. Trader. Speaker. Director. Destroyer of share buybacks).  Many newer companies were given the chance to share their startup pitches.  Highlights included Finova Financial and Sparkfin.
According to Rosen, “There was a lot of good buzz around new StockTwits‘ features” which has over 300,000 investors, market professionals and public companies share information and ideas about the market and individual stocks.  Further, Rosen commented that “Chart Art, Global Macro Investing, and Social Signal were the most popular sections.  While he couldn’t make it this year, Naval Ravikant of AngelList was able to call in for a fireside chat.  We were also excited to bring in Cheddar, who broadcasted live from the event.”

Wootrader attended as a vendor and their founder, Martin Stoyanov, shared that “Stocktoberfest 2016 was great, mainly because of the attendees. Many of them had alternative views of the investing world, and they definitely made it interesting. Since we consider our product to also take an alternative perspective on the investing realm, this was a nice environment for us to show off and preview our new tool.

unnamedThe beta of our new product, FinanceBoards officially launched on the 18th of this month. It’s completely free for users to manipulate any of our over 450 pre-made financial information widgets, as it is for users to integrate any API that they have access to and create their own widgets.”

From our conversations, we learned that most traders are interested in better pricing models, more customization in platforms, and more tech integrations into their platforms.

It was great to hear directly from the people on the front lines that what we’re doing at Just2Trade and WhoTrades is solving the actual problems they’re are facing.”
