Invite you to attend an
International Youth Exchange Meeting

Is your teen interested in having a once-in-a-lifetime international experience next year at a very reasonable cost?  Each year, Rotary International provides thousands of young people with the opportunity to experience other cultures firsthand.  Through the Coronado Rotary Club and Rotary’s International Youth Exchange program, students are given the opportunity to grow as individuals while returning to our community with a broader view of the world and a deeper understanding of cultures as well as themselves.

The Youth Exchange program has been formally in existence for more than 30 years and has a network of more than 1.2 million Rotarians around the world with both short term (summer) and/or long term (academic) programs as well as summer camps available in 24 countries.

Interested teens and parents are encouraged to attend the Rotary Youth Exchange Information Night on Wednesday, November 9th, 6-7 pm, at Coronado High School, 650 D Avenue.  Please arrive promptly so you can learn about the various programs, and have questions answered. You’ll hear from recent participants in these programs and learn about the many opportunities available for our youth, ages 15 ½ through early 20s, depending on the specific program.

The meeting will be held in the CHS Multipurpose Room. Space is limited so please RSVP by November 7th to [email protected] or by calling 435-8334. For more information on the programs, please go to www.coronadorotary.org  and click on Youth Exchange. Applications for this experience of a lifetime will be sent out following completion of a brief survey of interest. The applications must be completed and returned in early January 2017.

Exchange opportunities include:

1. Long-term exchanges – last for an academic year, during which the student lives with more than one host family and attends school in the host country.

2. Short-term exchanges – live with a host family overseas who has a teen your age and then he/she will come to your home and stay with your family for a few weeks (or reverse order).

3. International Summer Youth Camps – two to four weeks in length, bringing together students from many countries in an overseas location, and you will be the only American!

Student Selection: Rotary Club of Coronado is required to screen applicants (age 15-18; summer camps allow students up to the age of 25 and you may be up to 18 1⁄2 to start the long-term exchange if you choose to do so after US high school graduation) interested through completion of a detailed application and interviews based on the following criteria: scholastic record and age, linguistic ability (not necessary for summer camps), involvement with incoming exchange students and community involvement as a potential cultural ambassador.
