Brigadier General RG Head Author Talk & Reception

BrigGen Head will give a short slide presentation and show the Blue Max and other medals. Book sale and signing will follow.

The Coronado Library in partnership with Bay Books Independent Book Store will host Brigadier General R.G. Head, USAF (Ret.) on Thursday, September 8th at 5:00 pm in the library’s Winn Room.

Oswald Boelcke bookBGen Head will discuss his newly published biography, Oswald Boelcke: Germany’s First Fighter Ace and Father of Air Combat. One of his displays, which you can see and touch, is a replica of the Funeral Pillow with Boelcke’s medals that the Red Baron carried at Boelcke’s funeral. The book was just endorsed by the US World War I Centennial Commission.

A graduate of the US Air Force Academy, BGen Head is a command pilot with more than 3,000 flying hours. One of the first fighter pilots in Vietnam, he flew 325 combat missions in the A-1 Skyraider for which he earned the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 12 Oak Leaf Clusters.

BGen Head served as the Deputy Commander of NATO’s FIFTH Allied Tactical Air Force in Italy and squadron commander of F-4 Phantom IIs in the Philippines. He and his wife, Carole, currently live in Coronado. He was most recently honored by the City of Coronado on the “Avenue of Heroes,” and in 2014 he was selected as Coronado’s “Citizen of the Year.”

After a short video presentation and discussion, copies of the book will be available for purchase of a signed copy. All attendees are invited to stay for a reception.
