Pomona Roundabout Completed – Now Open

CORONADO, CA
(August 1, 2014) – City officials announce the grand opening today of the roundabout at the intersection of Pomona and Adella avenues and Seventh Street, a project that will both improve traffic circulation and safety in the area.

Work on the project was completed in 45 days. The roundabout will be officially opened to through traffic at a 12:30 p.m. ceremony today with the help of elected leaders and City officials.

The roundabout is the result of a successful test project that will help reduce vehicle speed, improve bike and pedestrian mobility, upgrade storm drains and infrastructure, and beautify the area.

“The City has been anxiously awaiting the completion of this project and we appreciate the community’s patience,” said City Manager Blair King. “The end result will be a safe and beautiful traffic circle that will calm traffic yet improve through-put to the (San Diego-Coronado) Bridge and Naval Amphibious Base Coronado.”

Additional construction operations and other landscaping items remain to be completed by the contractor. However, the intersection is expected to remain open at all times while the items are completed.

Construction crews today will be removing all detour signs and traffic controls now that Pomona is reopening. Work began June 9 on the Pomona, Seventh and Adella Intersection Improvements Project. The contractor, Tri-Group Construction and Development Inc., worked to complete the work and was provided a financial incentive to finish early.

The City spent $1.3 million for the Capital Improvement Project. For questions regarding construction, call Jim Newton at (619) 522-7313 or send an email to [email protected].
