Can You Help Save a Cat’s Life? Meet Cal

Cal is one very cool cat and is what we would term a “turnkey” cat. He is as friendly and affectionate as he is handsome. Cal comes out to meet every visitor with enthusiasm and is extremely generous with his head butts and allorubs. It is obvious that this guy thinks people are great.

Cal’s build is like a feline football player – he has a big head and a thick, muscular neck that he enjoys having massaged. Having lived outdoors, he has a few scars from his scrimmages, but they add a certain ruggedness to good looks.

This youngster loves to play and will chase cat wands and cat toys. He is also very food motivated and thinks cat treats are one of the best inventions ever!

It should be easy to find Cal a new home since he will charm everyone he meets… But Cal is being held behind the scenes at the Coronado Animal Care Facility because there is a stigma attached to him because people don’t understand about his “condition”. You see, Cal is FIV+ – meaning he has antibodies to the Feline Immunodeficiency virus in his blood indicating that he has been exposed to the virus.

Cats that test positive for FIV can and do live long and healthy lives with proper care and nutrition. FIV is spread from one cat to another through deep bite wounds, so non-aggressive FIV+ cats can live happily and healthily with FIV- cats. In fact, two of our PAWS volunteers have an FIV+ cat living with their FIV- cats.

The guidelines of the City of Coronado Police Department dictate that Cal must be removed from the Coronado Animal Care Facility as soon as possible so we are in desperate need of a foster home for him.

Do you have room in your home and heart to help out this amazing boy? If you are interested in fostering Cal, please complete a Cat Foster Application. If you have any questions or would like to arrange to meet Cal, please call Bob, the Head of the Cat Adoption Team at 619-840-9727.

We thank you and Cal thanks you!
