The “Island” is constantly changing. Passing by 999 Adella Avenue, we noticed the construction fence go up a few days ago and today the property was in the process of being “scraped”. It was built in 1925 and was sold last month for $2.7 million dollars according to Zillow.
Some locals call it progress and the legal right of the new owners, others call it a travesty and think it shouldn’t have been demolished, but perhaps renovated. One eCoronado.com member, that wanted to remain anonymous, shared: “If people didn’t want anyone to demolish ‘old’ homes, just tell the owners to keep it in the family and not sell it for a big payday. No one ever gets mad at the seller.”
In a way, there is room for both arguments and we all know it’s part of living in an ever-changing Coronado. Here are a few quotes on “change” to ponder…
Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. – George Bernard Shaw
Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts. – Arnold Bennett Read
Nothing is so painful to the human mind as a great and sudden change. – Mary Shelley, Frankenstein
A year’s care, a minute’s ruin. – Filipino Proverb
