At CHA’s next “Wine & Lecture” event this Friday, February 28, at 5:30 p.m., the audience will learn much more about the newest class of Navy ships– the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), from Commodore Randy Garner, who leads the only operational squadron in the Navy devoted to LCS class ships. Our USS CORONADO will be a member of Commodore Garner’s Squadron but so, too, are many other of these brand new ships.
Commodore Garner will discuss every detail of the new ships and the missions they have been designed to perform. He will also provide information on future ships, their construction schedule and how these ships will revolutionize the Fleet.
During his most recent sea tour, Capt. Garner served as Commanding Officer of USS FREEDOM (LCS 1). He sailed FREEDOM on her maiden deployment to the Western Caribbean and Eastern Pacific Ocean with four at-sea drug interdictions, totaling over 10,000 pounds of narcotics seized.
Shore tours included Naval Postgraduate School, where he earned a master’s degree in Systems Engineering. Capt. Garner most recently served as the Future Ship Requirements Officer at Commander, Naval Surface Forces Pacific in Coronado, California. Capt. Garner’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy Commendation Medal (two awards), and Navy Achievement Medal (four awards).
