SAN DIEGO NAVY BASES TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONWIDE SECURITY EXERCISE
The Navy will be conducting part of a large-scale, nationwide anti-terrorism and force protection training exercise at San Diego-area bases and installations February 22-25.
Held annually, Exercise Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield enhances the training and readiness of Navy security personnel to respond to threats to installations and units. It is not a response to specific threats, but is regularly scheduled for practical experience and learning.
Measures have been taken to minimize disruptions to normal base and station operations, but there may be times throughout the week when the exercise causes increased traffic around bases or delays in base access. Area residents may also see increased security activity associated with the exercise.
Naval Medical Center San Diego advises beneficiaries that there may be delays at the hospital Wednesday, Feb. 23, and all outpatient visits and elective procedures have been cancelled that day. There may be delays at particular base clinics Wednesday, Feb. 23, and Thursday, Feb. 24. For a full schedule of Navy hospital, clinic and pharmacy hours during the week, see the medical center website at http://www.med.navy.mil/sites/nmcsd/Pages/MediaAdvisory_20110223.aspx
Also, representatives from the Fleet and Family Support Center, military housing and civilian housing referral services, Navy legal assistance, Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society and religious services will be located at the Family Assistance Center at Murphy Canyon Chapel Wednesday and Thursday. Military family members needing assistance from such services can avoid potential delays at bases by going to the Family Assistance Center. Patrons can also call (866) 595-7460 to ask about delays and availability of services.
The Navy will be working this year with other military and local, state and federal agencies to enhance the training scenarios. The Marine Corps, Coast Guard, City of San Diego Office of Homeland Security, the Port of San Diego, San Diego Police Department and the Red Cross are just some of the organizations participating.
