As a die-hard dog lover, I thought Chicago was pretty pooch-friendly. After all, we have dog beaches (three of them), restaurants that welcome dogs (outdoors, with special doggie menus), dog parks, and even a doggie cruise on Lake Michigan.
What we don’t have, but it appears San Diego, California, does is dog surfing. Yes, I did say dog surfing. Man’s best friend will be surfing at the Loew’s Coronado Bay Resort as part of its Loews Loves Pets program. I was surprised to find that this competition (which benefits pet-related charities, of course) has been going on since 2005 and is expected to draw at least 60 tail-wagging competitors.
The competition is being held on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Imperial Beach, and there will be a wide range of activities as part of the surfing fun. It’s $50-55 per contestant, depending on the category of dog, but that comes with a great goodie bag. Those of us on two legs can come and watch for free.
